Mango season 5/28/2016

Hello everyone, hope you all had a great week.

This week was pretty slow, since we have been focusing on mapping the last couple transfers we have a very small teaching pool so this week it was hard to decide where to go and what to do and try to juggle mapping and also finding at the same time. We were able to find a lot of members who we thought had moved out or lived in squatter areas with no address and that was good. We did find a lot of potential areas we can go back to in future weeks. We had a miracle on Sunday. We were only planning on like 5 investigators coming to church, when we got to church we counted 13. We had never met most of them and it turn out that one of our investigators brought them along to church, they stayed the whole time and gave me their address and we set up appointments. Another one of our investigators brought along his cousins and his less active dad, it was so good to see them at church. We taught some lessons after church and setup a baptism on the 16th of June and another one on the 9th of June. I am really praying that those will go through and that we will be able to teach them all the lessons and get ready by the dates.

We did a lot of walking this week. Mangoes ( I think thats how you spell it) are ripe now and they are always falling out of the trees so we always eat them as we walk or as we are talking to people we sit down and eat mangoes with them haha. They are pretty good. It has rained here every day last week and rainy season is almost upon us, thank goodness because it has been HOT for like 2 months. Life is good, the mission is so masaya and awesome im happy to be here. Love you all hope you have a great week!

Part Members Pa More 5/21/2018

This week was pretty stressful for me, mostly because we had been mapping the previous weeks and so our teaching pool was not the greatest and now I am trying to remember where people live and trying to decide who to visit and so it was tough not gonna lie. There was also a lot of good that came out of this week. We have a ton of part members in our area and as of now every single person that we are teaching are part members. It is a blessing because of course they have a really good chance of being baptized because their families are already members. At church yesterday we were sitting there and all of the sudden a girl from Bagong Silang ward came in and brought her cousin with her who is 12 years old, his name is Micheal. She said that she wanted her cousin to go to church so she came to Deparo ward just so she could introduce him to us  and so she could help him come to church. It was awesome, he is also a part member and we taught him after church, it went very well hopefully he can come to church on his own next week. After sacrament I was using the bathroom and Elder Richards came running and told me that some crazy nanay in our ward was looking for me. I came out of the bathroom and she saw me and started yelling " Elder Musk come over here hurry!" hahaha first I asked her who Elder Musk is and then she took a good look at my name tag and gave me a big kinda friendly whack on the arm hahahaha. Anyways she brought her son to church and pretty much told us that he has to get baptized in this ward in 4 weeks.... her son is 21 years old by the way. I just kinda chuckled about it and started talking to her son, Erle. He told me that he came to church as a primary kid but was never baptized, he said he wants to get baptized as soon as possible so we agreed to teach him once a week after church as long as he was able to get to church every week. The whole situation was weird but it was a major blessing, We pretty were given someone to baptize who already knows a lot about our church and has a desire to be baptized. It was awesome, the nanay after church made sure we knew and remembered to make sure he gets baptized haha, gotta love nanays. So this week we are going to focus on teaching and since we dont have to map anymore we will spend more time finding and getting referrals and finding investigators. My comp is awesome, we are both going home together, we have been out about the same amount of time. He is a lebron fan so im super hyped. He is a great teacher and has trained a couple times already so he is very capable and I am happy to learn from him this transfer.

Hope you all have a great week! Mahal ko kayo, ingat kayo!

Mothers Day 5/14/2018

So this week was pretty crazy with transfers and mothers day calls and such, but it was also a great week and lots of good things happened. This week we were focusing on our part members and our already progressing investigators, thank goodness were done with mapping so we dont have to do too much of that. We had a very good lesson with one of our part members, her name is Erica. Her sister is 18 and has a 1 year old kid and she is very very less active, but the lesson was awesome and her sister did a great job of sharing and helping Erica understand. She did not come to church but she told us she was sick so hopefully next week. Our other part member is Marc Stephen, he is 10 years old and he got surgery this week and so he was home all day everyday, we taught him twice and he came to church so hopefully he will be baptized on the 2nd or 9th of June. We have two others that are scheduled for the 9th of June and we received a lot of good referrals from our members this week. We tried a different way to get referrals this week and we tried it on a couple members, it worked great. We give a simple spiritual thought about Jesus Christ or about the gospel of Jesus Christ and then we tie it into how lucky we are to have the gospel, then we ask them what their life would be like without the gospel, we tell them to write down the answer. Then we ask them to write 10 names down of people who do not have the gospel yet in their lives. We received some good people from that who we will go contact and hopefully they have potential. It is simple but it works well.

yesterday was pretty crazy. We had our mothers day calls which by the way were the best! Only two left haha, I am thankful for my mom, she is the best mother in the whole world and is an amazing example to me, without my mom I would not be where I am today. After mothers day calls we had our transfer announcements, sadly, Elder Bromley is moving on to Fairview to be a District Leader, he is going to be living in my old house in Don Antonio so thats pretty cool. Elders Richards and Slade are staying in Deparo and I am staying as well. I am going to be the new District Leader in Deparo. I am pretty excited and also very intimidated but I know this will help me grow and be a better person, even after my mission. My new companion is Elder Mahinay, he is philippino but I have not met him at all yet so I dont know what he is like, I am sure he will be great. So the mission feels like it getting real now, I hope it gets better and better and that we can continue to see success in Deparo and in my district.

So yeah a pretty crazy week, the mission is so masaya! I love you all and hope you all have a great week!

5/7/2018 I love walking so much

Hello folks, love you all and I hope you all had a great week!

This week was great and was full of walking, my favorite :) This week we set out to finish the CMIS of our ward and to go to every house hold in the ward and map them on our GPS. We had a lot still to do at the beginning of the week but we were able to get to all of them and complete the CMIS, we have all of the households mapped and now we can switch our focus back on finding part members and investigators again! Through all this mapping we have found some people that are active members but do not have a record, they were baptized but the record was never made or was lost so they need to get baptized again so they can go on missions and so they can go to the temple.  This Saturday we have a baptism for a very great member name Winssy Joves, she is awesome and will make a great missionary in the future years. Hopefully this will go through and she can get a new record. We have also found a lot of part members who we will be coming back to this week.

We walked a ton this week, and this week just happened to be the hottest week ever! (not really but it felt like it). One day we were walking from  the very top of our area, it was pretty dang hot and we had not eaten anything that morning (we were in a hurry). We start walking and looking for jeeps but there were none, we continued to walk. Somehow we got to talking about Hires and Mo' Bettas and some our our favorite places to eat, and we realized that we were really hungry. We were dead and we had to stop and rest and get some water and food in our systems, so we decide to go into this really nice looking cafe. Now in the philippines they love to advertise things that are not really what they look like, for example the pictures on the menu looked amazing and the food looked like it was gonna be really good, but it was sooooooooo bad haha. It was maybe the worst meal I have ever had in my entire life and the worst part was, it took like 30 minutes to make. We kinda just chuckled at the situation and smiled and chewed through the pain haha, we walked home and sat in front of the fans for like 20 minutes trying to cool off.... it made me think of how temptation sometimes looks soooo good. Sometimes we see something that looks so fun and so popular and everyone is doing it and so of course it will be good, but after we do it we realize how bad and how unsatisfying it really was. I thought about that for a long time, I played back the times where I made that mistake in my own life and I realized how important and how thankful I am for the atonement. Of course we should always try our best to stay away from temptation and not participate in those bad things but we are human and we mess up, but we also  have the atonement to fix the wrongs we have done. I am so thankful for the gift of the Atonement.

I hope you all have a great week! I will have pictures of the baptism next week! Ingat kayo!

Throw up Blessings 4/30/2018

Hello everyone! So this week went by very very fast and a lot of crazy stuff happened haha

So on monday we were going around mapping and we had an appointment with the Ricio family, they seemed somewhat interested but it wasnt anything too special. We left and went to a member to map them. The two kids were really sick and so they asked if we could give them blessings. We blessed the one smaller boy and it went well and then we went to bless the girl. Elder Bromley did the first part of the blessing and then as i went to give the other part....the girl threw up all over the place. It was soooo gross. It sounded so bad and I felt really bad for the girl because she was gagging and crying and she threw up like 6 times in a row right there in the room. Now the room was very very small and so the throw up got on the couch and splattered on the floor, nothing got on me or my comp so we were fine. After the blessing we left and had a good laugh about it. The girl is not sick anymore and was happy to see us at church.

Tuesday we had a district conference and our AP elder meyer gave us all GPS systems to use while we map all the members of this ward. We went to Macdo and ate a ton of food and then went and mapped some members, nothing crazy happened it was a good day.

Wednesday we went back to the CSP and finished the garden, it looks good but in the philippines there is so much trash everywhere when we were digging the trench for the garden we just kept scooping up garbage and bags and so the garden looks colorful because of all the garbage in the dirt hahaa. I put sunscreen on this time so i did not get burned. After that we went to Natividad and found all the houses and also ran into a lot of funny crazy old people who are really fun to talk to. The old people here are just wonderful...most of the time.

Thursday was not the best day for me. We went back to Myrna, last time we were there a bunch of street kids followed us and were making a ton of noise and saying all this crazy stuff and it was not very fun. This time on our way there i stepped in a huge cow turd and it got all over my shoe and everyone saw it. Elder Bromley was laughing his head off and even the trike driver saw it and yelled "jackpot" haha it took forever to get the poop of my shoe. We got to Myrna and all of the sudden a bunch of white people come walking out of a house, it took us off guard and we were super weird ed out. They seemed like nice people but it was just weird seeing them, they were all like huge and tall, i think they were doing like a service thing or something but we never found out, we did however find and map the member there so that was awesome.

Friday was weekly planning and we also got shwarma for dinner and the shke lady that we always go to for shakes totally ripped us off....but we did not realize it till after. The shakes were good though.

Saturday we spent all day mapping, it was a long day with a lot of walking but it was fun, we went to a subdivision that looks exactly like America, everryone has cars and people speak english...it was fun. We saw this giant house and we had the idea to go knock on it and see what happens, so we did. The lady answered through a little slit in the door and for some reason ma and bromley started laughing and after about 5 minutes i regained my composure and asked if she knew the member, she did not but she was nice about it so that was good.

Sunday was church and studies and it was a great day

Monday was zone con. it was awesome i loved it. It was about the Book of Mormon and the Holy Ghost. it was a great time, and we all felt the spirit and learned some really cool doctrine. My mission president is an amazing speaker and so it is always awesome when he gets up and starts speaking. After  that we got S and R pizza! it is real pizza that tastes like America!!! it was awesome. We taught a lesson later that night and as we were walking home we saw like 10 tvs playing game 7 of the cavs haha...they won thats awesome.

Anyways that was it, I love this mission and i know that the gospel is true. The book of mormon is true. Russel M nelson is a true prophet of god. Have a great week!
