Good to be back 9/24/2018

So this week was full of travel and meetings and was a little bit stressful not gonna lie. Thursday we had MLC so we had to travel all the way back out to the office in Novaliches and it took so long! Also i always get super tired on the bus and the mga jeepney I dont really know why. I was pretty tired all day but MLC was awesome and I cant wait for the next one. Friday was pretty busy too, we were going to go help the ward with ministering in the morning but the activity was not communicated very well so it never happened, instead we just mapped (Malolos stake is not mapped yet soo....I am going to be mapping again...). After that we worked all around our area and taught some really good lessons. We came to an old investigator and taught her about what happens after we die, she had lost her husband and wanted to know where he was. We shared the verses in Alma 40 and the spirit was so strong and the lady was crying and her son even turned off the computer and moved over to listen to us. It was one of the best lessons I have had on my mission so far. Yesterday we had stake conference and so i got to see all the old members in Malolos 3rd ward where i used to be assigned it was fun, also the conference itself was good too, it was all about respecting and loving you bishops and ministering. I am so excited for general conference, 3 weeks pa. We had 12 of our investigators come to church this week and we have a baptism this coming saturday! Charlene is getting baptized, the funny thing is that my companion in the MTC, Elder White, is the one who found her, my comp taught her and i just got here to harvest haha.

So when I left this house almost a year ago, the toilet was missing and we had to pee and shower and do our laundry in the same small room, when i came back i found that the toilet was fixed, but the house smells bad and is pretty gross still so we are looking for another house to move into. We have some ones we hope will work out. One of them has air con so I hope that happens haha.

Next week we have zone training meeting and zone conference the next week so we will be giving workshops to try and help our zone. Something we will focus on is "nailing our morning routine" President Hughes always mentions that pretty much every successful person in the world is a morning person, it may not have been that way their whole life but they made themselves be morning people and it helped them become successful. I want to work on getting my morning routine down so I can use less will power on trying to get ready for the day and more will power on the actual work.

Love you all and hope you have a great week

ALSO SHOUT OUT TO MY SISTER FOR TURNING 22!!!!! AND MY AWESOME UNCLE BRETT ( i dont know how old he is but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!)

9/17/2018 The Return......

So.... this week was trasnfer week. I am returning to the Land of Malolos!!!!! I will be a Zone Leader and I am in the same house as I was almost one year ago. I am pretty excited to go back to Malolos, it is away from the city and the ward I am going into has lots of progressing investigators so it will be harvest time! My new companion will be Elder Bryan from Oregon. We are both about 14 months in the mission, he is Elder Mahinay's son in the mission. Leaving Deparo is gonna be hard, I have been here for almost 6 months and seen lots of success, I have really enjoyed my time in Deparo. Being a district leader was really fun and our district was the best. Im kinda nervous about this new calling but Ill do my best and I know the Lord will help me out. Time to learn and grow.

So this week there was a huge typhoon that hit the Pinas. We felt the winds of it but that is about it, no flooding and no real damage so that is a blessing. We were not allowed to go out on Saturday because of the wind but to be honest it was not bad at all. The missions up north got it a lot worse that us. It was cool to say that I lived through a "super typhoon". Thank you all for your emails and love and support. I hope you are all doing well and loving life. The mission is awesome and it is starting to feel very fast, i cant believe its been 14 months....wow.

Have a great week!

Typhoon Update 9/14/2018

We wanted to give you a quick update. We are still in the middle of the storm, but all missionaries are accounted for and are safe and well. A few have been relocated to better situations, but most are still in their apartments and doing well. As conditions evolve, we will keep you updated. The key message for you is that we are doing well and our concerns are for the missionaries and others in the Cauayan and Laoag Missions, which are in the direct path of the typhoon. Please remember them also in your prayers.

Sincerely,

President Hughes

Typhoon Mangkhut 9/13/2018

Dear Parents, Families, and Priesthood Leaders of our missionaries,

As you may be aware, Typhoon Mangkhut (local name Ompong) is heading towards the Philippines, and Northern Luzon is the focus area where landfall is expected to occur. The outer bands of the typhoon are expect to cross the Quezon City North Mission late Friday night or Saturday. Your missionary has been alerted to prepare for this typhoon. Their preparations will include preparing for possible flooding in some areas, checking their 72 hour kits, having emergency cash, drinking water, non-perishable food, and charging their cell phones. Every apartment has an evacuation plan, which is usually to move to the nearby chapel. Because typhoons always come from east to west, and because we are on the west coast of Luzon, we do not experience the kind of coastal storm surges that can hit the east coast. Nevertheless, severe flooding from overflowing streams and rivers does occur in some areas. We choose apartments that are not known to flood as identified by the local members. The missionaries will stay close to their apartments for the next few days, and stay indoors depending on conditions in their area. You can email me at:

sfhughes@ldschurch.org if you have questions about your missionary.

We would ask you to pray for the all those who are in the direct path of this typhoon.

Sincerely,

Best regards,

President Hughes

Baptism of Marienete and Ashely 9/11/2018

This week we really focused most of our attention on Marienete and Ashley who were baptized on Saturday!!! This will be a great addition to the young women in Deparo ward and it was good to see Marienete finally get baptized after almost 6 months of teaching and trying to get her to come to church. It started an hour late but it went good and was very successful. Afterward the ward had a farewell for one of the missionaries in the ward that are leaving soon. We had zone interviews this week and it went very good. Transfers are next week and I know that I am leaving Deparo....I have been here for 6 months and it has been my most fruitful area so far, I love this ward and the members in it, I feel like I have lived here my whole life haha. I am excited to find out where I am needed next and to see how the rest of my mission will go.

Also i got a whack haircut this week haha. The barbers here dont ask what you want they just kinda do their own thing and sometimes it looks ridiculous. None of them went to school or anything they are self trained, its more fun in the Philippines :) Love you! have a great week!!!

9/3/2018 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Well everybody it is now September meaning....its pretty much Christmas time already!!! They are already playing Christmas music in the stores and they already have Christmas trees and everything! Gotta love the "ber" months.

This week was pretty normal, we taught and found nothing too weird or crazy happened. We did have 2 FHE's this week at recent converts house and Elder De La Cruz made some really good pork and tuna lumpia.  Ang sarap! I also went on exchanges with Elder De La Cruz and had a really good time, he is funny and keeps me laughing. We had a great lesson 1 with one of the potential investigators in their area. Ashley and Marienete passed their baptism interviews so on the 8th we have 2 baptisms!! I have not had one in a while, its gonna be good. Ill send pictures. The mission is great, I love it. I love this country and the Gilas! Jordan Clarkson is dominating and gilas is doing good in the Asian games... we almost beat China. Anyways thanks for the emails and the love and support!!!!
Mahal ko kayo! Ingat lagi!
